View of White Cliffs of Epes along the Tombigbee River in Alabama.

White Riverside Fossil Cliffs

Epes, Alabama

Massive, 150-million-year-old exposed chalk cliffs along the Tombigbee River. Composed entirely of ancient plankton corpses. There is no official viewing area. So given the 40-foot drops and ecological sensitivity of the cliffs, it's best to view them while driving Hwy 11 over the river.
