Frequent Ponders
So…what is The Alabama Ramble? You just drive across the state, take photos, and harass people into talking to you?
I mean…yes. That’s pretty much exactly what I do. Actually, I wrote a semi-serious “mission statement” of sorts that explains why. You can check it out here. Really though, it comes down to this: Alabama is an incredible state. I’d like to help you explore it.
Are you married? Your wife is cool with you just taking the car and roaming Alabama?
First of all, it’s not just any car — it’s a minivan.
And second, yes, she is completely supportive. Truth be told, she is the unsung hero behind this project.
Huh. Wild. So I can just go anywhere that you do?
Mostly, yes. But I should add a few things:
- I always get permission before I go onto private property. And because of that…
- There are sometimes rules such as operating hours, where to park, which path to take, and so forth. I always observe these, and I humbly ask that you do so as well.
- I try to operate with a Leave No Trace mentality, and I would encourage anyone who uses my site to do the same thing.
We have countless wonders in Alabama — some natural, some man-made — and the only way that we can preserve them for our grandkids is if we leave them at least as nice as we found them.
Wait. You’re starting to sound preachy…
Yeah, I know — but this stuff is important.
