A Brooke Cannon from the Civil War rests in front of a neatly arranged Confederate cemetery.

Confederate Cemetery w/ Reclaimed Civil War Cannon

Gainesville, AL

Gainesville's "Old Cemetery" houses graves of the town's founders and many unknown Civil War soldiers (from both sides). The Brooke Cannon, one of the South's proudest weapons, was one of the final ones produced before the Battle of Selma. Gainesville's citizens threw it into the river to escape Union capture, and it was recovered in 1876 and placed here.
