Grave of Lincoln’s Sister-in-Law (including Notable Hair)

Selma, AL

Elodie Breck Todd Dawson, Abraham Lincoln's half sister-in-law, is famous for supposedly stealing wartime intel from the White House. Locals are generally of the view that it was actually medicine (in short supply in the Confederacy) that she stuffed into her petticoat. When she passed in 1877 (at the age of 37), her husband ordered a sculpture made and shipped from Italy. Unsatisfied with the hair, he had it shipped back across the Atlantic for fine tuning. Cemetery maps are available onsite or at the Chamber of Commerce.
