Sculpture by Pioneering AL Woman Artist

Livingston, AL

While surely hundreds of people unknowingly pass it everyday, the entryway sculpture ("Joyous Boy") at UAW's campus library is among the more acclaimed pieces by Geneva Mercer, a famous sculptor. Mercer was born 24 miles south of campus, apprenticed under Giuseppi Moretti (creator of "Vulcan" statue in Birmingham), and has had perhaps the most successful sculpting career of any AL woman. To see the sculpture, enter the library from the North (Chapman St.) side.
