Trail of Tears Cherokee Mission Site (est. 1823)

Fort Payne, AL

Site of mission and school set up for Cherokee in 1923. Active until Indian Removal in 1838. Site originally had numerous buildings: 2-story log house, classrooms separated by gender, cabins for boarding students, and others. Only the cemetery remains. Various settler graves and unmarked graves, possibly for Cherokee who died during internment.
